Formerly known as Sichuan Province Orchestra, Sichuan Philharmonic Orchestra was founded in 1973. It was also named as Eying Orchestra and Sichuan Radio Symphony Orchestra before. Now it is a branch of Sichuan Radio and Television Station.
As an independent professional symphony orchestra of Sichuan, Sichuan Philharmonic Orchestra undertakes the important mission to spread domestic and foreign excellent music works, and to rich people's spiritual and cultural life. It was founded for nearly forty years. In addition, it has already made great achievements over the past years. Sichuan Philharmonic Orchestra carried out over 1000 public performances of various forms, and recorded hundreds of music for films and TV plays, such as "Sacred Mission”, "Late Spring", "Singing in the Whirlpool" "The Corner Forgotten by Love", "Jiao Yulu", "Chen Yun Chu Chuan" and "the Long March’s Suite".
Since 1996, SPO has successfully held "Sichuan New Year Concert" for 16 years. In 2010, SPO has even invited to hold the “New Year Concert” at the National Theater Concert Hall in Beijing. In the same year, SPO held the opening performance of China Western Symphony Week invited by their organizing committee.
In 2012, SPO launches a theme activity called the "Musical Journey -- 2012 Elegant Art Promotion Year" and series of concerts as the "Music Season", “Citizen Concert" and " Audio-visual Concert" at the Pride Concert Hall and Sichuan Jin Cheng Art Palace. SPO also hold a set called "Zero Distance Concert" into the schools, communities, squares and other places. These series of concerts have evoked a strong responseof the community.
Later in 2013, SPO will launch more new series of concerts such as "Master Series", "Classic Series", "Celebration Concert Series ".The "Master Series" will mainly spread Beethoven and Tchaikovsky’s symphonies, and a series of piano and violin concertos. The "Classic Series" will include short familiar masterpieces which are more close to the majority needs of the audience. The "Celebration Concert Series" will be hold to celebrate the Big Days, so the concerts will be very brilliant, magnificent and contagious.
